About the Young Leaders Council

Training nonprofit board leaders for 25 years

The Mission of the Young Leaders Council is to train diverse, committed individuals to effectively participate on the boards of nonprofit organizations and make a difference in the community by replenishing the volunteer leadership base.

The YLC consists of a eleven-session training program, addressing fundamental board skills, followed by a year-long internship on the board of a community nonprofit agency as a nonvoting member. There are two training sessions held each year in the Spring and the Fall with approximately 35-40 participants in each class from companies all over Middle Tennessee.

Participants come from a broad range of corporate, civic and volunteer backgrounds. They may be nominated by YLC alumni or staff, their company, or may be self-nominated with management's recommendation.
